SPOTLIGHT is a quarterly in-person event featuring local writers reading and discussing their latest work. Each writer will be allotted 10 minutes. After the readings there will be an audience Q&A and a book signing.

The Virtual Workshops consists of 12 virtual workshops open to all people, all levels, that will focus on honing a particular element of writing. Our goal for The Virtual Workshop is to create a space for a community of writers who are serious about their work and to help them further their craft. The Virtual Workshop will include 30 minutes of lesson and prompt taught by our guest artist, then an hour of sharing and light critique.

An International Collaborative Project Between Writers, Art Animators and Voice Actors.

Moving Words is a project that makes possible transnational collaboration among artists of prose, poetry, voice acting, and filmmaking. Moving Words intersects voices of all ages through writers whose submitted works will be transformed into short films by students at various colleges, universities, and art schools around the world.

This month we are honoring the memory of Denise H. Bell who passed away a few weeks ago. Denise was a self described 'mature writer' from Fort Greene, Brooklyn and one of our Moving Words 2021 poets. Denise was part of the ARTS By The People family where her spirit will live on in her poems.

Join us for The Platform on Wednesday, February 3, 8-9:15PM with host Jen Soriano (she/they) Jen is a writer, performer, social movement strategist, and parent to a six-year-old child who is also one of her best friends. They are the author of the chapbook "Making the Tongue Dry," published by Arts by the People, and recipient of the 2019 Penelope Niven Prize, the 2019 Fugue Prose Prize, and fellowships from Jack Jones Literary Arts, Hugo House and the Vermont Studio Center. Jen lives in Seattle, where they are currently hard at work on a memoir-in-essays about collective trauma, epigenetics, and the neuroscience of healing.
